Unlike conventional travel guides, this app is not about sightseeing, the best places to visit, nor where to eat. The idea behind this project is to create a guide containing basic information about the country’s culture. Whilst also making travellers aware of their manners and etiquette, or even oddities, which might be unique to that country.

PROBLEM

How often do you see a tourist doing something that makes you shake your head and ask yourself 'why don’t they know this?'

This project is aiming to make travellers better tourists.

Travelling is about getting to know different countries and their cultures. Everybody wants to have an enjoyable time abroad.

The goal of Culture Clue is to provide people the information they need to be an understanding and respectful tourist (even though we might disagree with certain things).

The app is trying to make basic information quick and easy to access to prevent faux-pas like e.g. visiting the Vatican and only pack spaghetti-strap tops and mini skirts. 

PROBLEM

Common travel guides are often books that only contain detailed information about one country or a specific region.

SOLUTION

Culture Clue is an app, so there is no need to pack, since it's already on your phone, wherever you go. It contains information about multiple countries–you only have to type in the country you want 'culture clues' for. 

Almost certainly, you can find these 'culture clues' in books or on the internet.

PROBLEM

But this kind of research is time consuming, especially when you browse through Reddit and Quora. One problem with these sources is that you don't know if it's actually reliable. You end up comparing multiple search results, because they are all saying something different.

SOLUTION

And that's where an app like Culture Clue would come handy. ☻
